sports entry

Friday was the winter STF opener. Thank god I got to play Men's One. And I got to play Men's One because I followed the crowd. My first instinct was to go my own route but then I thought better of it and it paid off.
I think I played extremely well overall; I was pretty handy at net and I only got broken once. I think my partner was a bit weaker than usual. That's ok because god knows I've had my share of being the weaker link.
I just had some beautiful reflex and stretch volleys that I skillfully directed into the open court. The ball would come, I would reach or react, connect square in the sweetspot and be on its way to being a winner. I love this game. Come on!
We were playing two lefties and on one particular baseline exchange, I was awesome I have to say. Since he's a lefty, it was his forehand and my backhand in the crosscourt rally. He kept waiting for me to make a mistake but my confidence kept increasing as the exchange went on. I started going for a bit more(not too much) and he wasn't able to keep up. Vamos!
I was serving to finish off the first set so the pressure was on me. Went down 15-30 but then came up with the goods and finished off the first set with an ace out wide. Allez!
Wish we could've played a third set but one of our opponents is an alcoholic and couldn't wait to hit the bar. Beer was ok, chicken was great and the fries were tastey. Some people were weird but the night wasn't ruined and overall it was a fine evening.

Saturday we had an exhibition futbol match. I don't like futbol nearly as much as tennis but I do like the physical intensity of the game: The all out sprints, the fight in the box, the coach yelling. I got to play midfield and although I stink at most aspects of the game, I have a great instinct for covering the passing lanes and also for getting myself open. I got myself open on a free kick, the ball came exactly where it needed to, and I fucken missed it! An open net!
I play D most of the time so I don't get a chance to shoot and this surface is grabby and my foot got stuck on the turf when I tried to shoot. It wouldn't have made a difference as the final score was 2-5 but it still would've been nice to get the respect of my teammates. Idiota!

"own route...followed the crowd"?!? I don't get it. You simply chose the longer straw...and lucked out.

Yes, some people were "weird" that night...hehehe. Lots of people.

    Cap'n
