Cry havoc, and let slip the Dogs of War

I like this Dateline show, it always gets me thinkin'. In the investigation I saw a few nights ago, they set up an elaborate trap to catch pedophiles in the act(well, almost). The reporter had a kid on a chat site claiming he was home alone and bored. In the 3 days the operation was set up, 19 people came over to the house to meet the kid(One dude even showed up naked!). Just as they would walk in, the reporter barge in and ask "What are you doing here?". Sadly, there has never been a question more rhetorical.

19 people is a lot. And they were questioned thoroughly and each one was aware that they were ill and most claimed to be in process of "getting help". I wonder if they really believed that they are ill. But what is the cause of this illness? Is it an aberration in nature caused by an imbalance of the very delicate brain chemistry? If so, homosexuality must be put in the same (scientific but not sociological) category.

Over the past few months, Oprah has had a number of episodes dedicated to pedophilia and she has begun a crusade where she donates $100,000 to the person who provides information leading to the arrest of a known pedophile.

She's on a tear about how laws against pedophiles are too lenient and that they are everywhere. She can't understand it. But isn't it because they are everywhere that the laws are so lax? Many of them must have positions of influence in society and they also represent a large enough number of the voting public. The shame of everything has shrouded and kept everything secret so that now, before we are even aware of it, it surrounds us.

Oprah even had Laveranues Coles, a wide receiver in the NFL who was a victim of a pedophile growing up, on her show talking about the issue and his experiences. For him to come on the show and reveal all that's happened to him to the world, that is some real strength. It's funny, athletes are usually measured by how much they can weigh, or how fast they can run but this is a completely different kind of strength. He makes himself seemingly more vulnerable but the purpose of which is to reveal everything because it being a secret is it's greatest strength. Well, that's what Oprah says anyway, I'm not certain I quite understand it, though I do understand the benefit of making society as a whole more aware of everything.
